When I read the 'life of pi' I was on the edge of my seat reading about the initial boat trip. Being someone who never reads the back of a book I had no idea how the story would develop. I was very disappointed when , on closing the book, the cover depicted a boy in a life raft. Felt hard done by!

I don't mind the author but I've a real aversion to when they have characters on the cover. Part of the fun is "designing" how they look as you read the book.

True, although if I love an author then I like imagining them writing it. So it works both ways.

Yeah, you end up thinking about the author and their life writing it. Maybe if they wore a hat and sunglasses???

No, I completely agree. I just read 'The Damned United' and the picture of David Peace on the back just didn't fit the story type. For one thing he wasn't Brian Clough, the supposed narrator of the story, and for a second thing he looked incredibly smug-kind of like AA Gill from the Sunday Times.

I don't know about you, but I hate seeing a picture of the author in a book. For some reason it kind of ruins the mistique for me. Maybe it's very Wizard of Oz-esq to want the mystery to remain, but I like to get totally involved in the book and believe in the characters. If I see the author I tend to picture the author coming up with the story and start imagining their lives rather than the characters.

Am I alone in this craziness??
