Kensuke from Kensuke's Kingdom, by Michael Morpurgo, a book for the younger reader, but a wonderful character. I have picked him for the same reasons as Deno picked Morrie - a wise, calm man. But a man who was also suffered much and has picked up the pieces of a shattered life and continued the best way he knows how.

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer. If ever there was a summer read - its (hate to use this word but its appropriate) delightful! Its a light read, but there's romance, history, comedy all wrapped up together... even 3 weeks after reading it I still smile when I think about it and the characters in it who I fell in love with - wish they were real!!

The Reluctant Fundamentalist - Mohsin Hamid. Great book. Sounds very heavy, but its insightful into Afghan culture v western culture without being too much. An absolute page turner.

This might not suit for summer reading but I looked up the Times top 100 novels, there are two lists, one by the magazine and one by the magazine readers. For all my reading I haven't managed to get through many books on the list - for the ones I have read it was so long ago they are due for a re-read as an adult. I'll be taking one book off the list everytime I stock up at the library
