Best Cookery Book

  1. There's nothing better than a good cookery book and a glass of wine, it's like a really good meal without the effort!

Nigella is definitely among my favourites. I find Jamie a bit hard to follow, I think he kind of assumes you'll check the times on things (resulting in lots of burning for me).

I have this book I got in Australia from a cook called Donna Hay, which I love. Very simple & tasty receipies.

  2. You have to read the Nigel Slater books, I swear the man can describe a roast chicken in a way that will have you practically licking the page! His attitude to food is that it is not rocket science and should be easy to follow, his autobiography Toast is also amazing

  3. I love Nigella and Rachel Allen although I cant stand watching Rachel's shows but I love her books. Also Nigella express is brilliant for quick and easy meals and chances are you'll have everything you need in the kitchen already.

  5. Darina Allen's Ballymaloe Cookery Course is the most comprehensive cookery book I have ever come across. It is well organised and gives clear straightforward instructions, covering absolutely everything you could ever want to cook. I bought a copy for myself a couple of years ago and I have since purchased others as Christmas/Birthday gifts for friends & family.

  7. Nigella's 'Feast' is a wonderful book. I have tried a few bis and pieces from it...delicious! But by far the best bit is shmoosing through the pages and the photos imagining having made it for the next very posh dinner party I will never have! mmmmmmmmmmm

  8. I agree about Nigel slater, his Real Fast Food is fantastic, delicious recipes and a very practical layout too; chapters are divided according to the primary ingredient eg eggs, pasta etc....so you can open the cupboard, see what's there and check to see how elaborate or simple you want to be. After most recipes he includes other suggestions that can be thrown into a basic risotto for example. Everything takes less than 20 minutes and he has excellent ideas for leftovers. This was my bible as a cash strapped vegetarian student and now that my cupboard has expanded to include delights such as pesto, olives, anchovies etc, I keep returning to his book for more ideas. Recommended!!!

    Blazing salads also is fantastic
