Development Education type Books for 10- adult

  1. Just thought I'd stick up a post on some very good books I've read lately. I wanted to read books suitable for teenagers (10 - adult) with a development education type theme to them. I had previously read - 'Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry', by Mildred D Taylor, and progressed this Summer to read the sequels 'Let the Circle Be Unbroken', and 'The Land'. All excellent reads.

I then read 'The Circuit' by Francisco Jiménez. It is a book that tells stories from the perspective of a migrant child. I absolutely loved the book. It was simply written - heart rendering yet inspiring. Having read the last line I immediately went online hoping that there were sequels to the book, as I really wanted to know what path this child's life would take. I was thrilled to find that there were - "Reaching Out" and Breaking Through" - and ordered them immediately. Looking forward to their arrival!

The last book that I thought worth mention here is a book called 'Ellen Foster' by Kay Gibbons, a story told from the perspective of an eleven year old Ellen, who's determination and survival skills are awe inspiring. Some of the major themes of the novel include self-consciousness, self-criticism, and ignorance by social awareness. A wonderful book.

I thoroughly enjoy this type of book, and if anybody has any more recommendations I'd love to hear them.
