I'll happily read any genre and am not the type of person who'll only be seen reading in public if it's something from the Times bestseller list; though I have been known to remove Richard & Judy stickers.
Saying that, I do have a guilty pleasure- Karin Slaughter. Her books are all cop/detective/forensic thrillers and are brilliant. While they're not for everyone, they're ideal for travelling; I finished one on a plane yesterday and went immediately onto another. A lot of her books are based on the same characters- Dr, Sara Linton and her estranged husband police chief Jeffrey Tolliver. The characters are interesting but the plot from book-to-book is fairly interchangable; someone's murders, Sara does the autopsy, Jeff investigates, main suspect turns up dead, witness won't talk, witness dies etc. It's gotten to the stage where I can't even remember the titles of the ones I've already read and have to read the first few pages to remember if I've already read it or not.
On the plus side, her books are complete escapist material, are usually stocked in airport and train bookshops and are always on sale. :)
So, what are your guilty reading pleasures?
