  1. I was wondering whether anyone had formed any Reading New Years Resolutions?

There are three books that have been sitting on my shelf for the last couple of years which I am adamant I must read in 2010 - Anna Karenina by Tolstoy (the length tends to put me off!), Oscar & Lucinda by Peter Carey, and The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger.

    Happy New Year everybody!

  2. I have Catch22 on my shelf for years at this stage & for some weird reason I still have to read it .... so that is my Resolution for 2010
Also, last Xmas I got a gift of Diarmaid Ferriter's "The Transformation of Ireland 1900-2000" and hopefully I will get it read in the course of 2010

Happy New Year to all book lovers & Happy Reading in 2010

  3. To make a concentrated effort to read more non-fiction. Always find myself more drawn to fiction. Might try and intersperse a non-fiction between every three fiction or something like that!
Best wishes for a Happy New Year!

  7. Marianne: Have finished The Other Hand and would highly recommend it as a great read. With regard to other new year resolutions I plan to definitely read -
The Basque History of the World by Mark Kurlansky - Because I read Guernica by Dave Boling and absolutely loved the book and want to find out more about Basque Spain.
Ireland's Misfortune - The turbulent Life of Kitty O'Shea by Elizabeth Kehoe
Africa - Altered States, Ordinary Miracles - by Richard Dowden

They have been on my shelf for a while and I'm determined to get to them soon.

Deno: Just read that you plan keeping a Journal. Thought you might be interested in this. I wanted to do what you plan for so long, and started it so many times, but never managed to keep to it.

At the same time as I joined Dine to Read I also started to keep an online journal of books read on a site called 'Readernaut'. I find it absolutely brilliant as you can find other readers who have read books you have read/plan to read and see what their opinions were. You can keep notes on books you have read yourself - and most importantly it keeps a diary of the books you have read. I have also read many books that I learned about on this site through browsing other people's journals. There is also a section where you can keep lists of books that you plan to read. Just thought this might be of interest to you. Happy reading and recording either way!!
